NYPL Digital Collection

The New York Public Library has recently enhanced access to all public domain items in Digital Collection so that EVERYONE can enjoy, reuse and download high resolution  beautiful photographs. There are over 180,000 items in their digital collections!

FREEEEEEE.

This is a HUGE resource, students. Use it. Be inspired. Travel through history. Explore.

These images could be used in artwork and designs, as inspiration, or even as a free, downloadable art to frame for your space.

Digital Collections

I downloaded a few above but also really liked this collection seen on Apartment Therapy.

I’m particularly drawn to the Farm Security Administration photos – if you aren’t aware of the FSA and WPA, I’d revisit your history. 😉

Right brain, left brain…

Gorgeous images juxtaposing the right brain vs. left brain… See link here

As designers, we tend to think about the obvious need to use our right side of the brain.. the creative, the colorful, the whimsical… but the organized, practical and detail-oriented left side must be used as well!

Challenge: This semester, let’s hone both sides of the brain to create balanced, successful and sophisticated designs!
