Art/Design habits…
Welcome back students!
Now that we are back from a holiday weekend but still have the freshness of a new semester … lets take a moment to think about our art/design habits.
What do you do everyday related to art/design? Sketchbook, homework assignments?
I’ve done many projects over the years where I set up a “system” for myself to work. This keeps me organized. Would a “system” help you? To me, art is like exercising.. you have to warm up in order to be able to run a marathon. Whatever your system is, keep at it and great things will happen…
Some ideas for routine habits:
1. Use the amazing resource that is the internet! So many artists to discover on IG, Pinterest, and one of my personal favorites This is Colossal
2. Go to the library to look at art books
3. Check out a new local gallery or museum (post on local art resources coming next)
4. Sketch every day
5. Read Art/ Design Magazines. Issuue has pretty great art/design e-mags
6. Give yourself 15 mins every day to make a mess – not working on a school or client project (I do this!) It doesn’t matter what happens from that mess… maybe nothing! Do it anyway.

And lastly, one of my favorite pep talk letters of all time.. written between two of my favorite artists, Eva Hesse to Sol Lewitt.
Book recommendation: “Daily Rituals: How Great Minds Take Time, Find Inspiration and Get to Work ” by Mason Currey
and one of my favorite artists/designers has a really great resource of a website : Jessica Hische
Do you have any BAD HABITS? All of us are guilty of a few..
